I am Carolina Martínez, the founder and creative director of “Kreaia Jewelry and Design”.

I was born in Bogotá (Colombia), studied Product Design in Barcelona and I’ve always known that my passion was to create, to manifest my own ideas from scratch. That is what makes me feel alive.

However, I have never felt comfortable knowing that my ideas were going to be produced in the third world, to be consumed in the first — or that my professional life’s purpose was to be creating just another object.

I have found balance between my creation and production through artistic jewelry in the “Escola Massana” in Barcelona. In this art and craft school I learned that jewelry can have an artistic and personal background, its own history.

I showcased my work in galleries and museums across the globe: in Munich and Hanau (Germany), in Barcelona and Valencia (Spain), in Torreón and Monterrey (Mexico), in Paris (France), Tallin (Estonia), Nijmegen and Amsterdam (Netherlands), London (UK), Washington and New York (USA) and in Montreal (Canada), and many more.

My work has been published in different books, such as “Contemporary Jewellery in perspective”  by Lark Jewellery & Beading publishers and “Jewelbook 12/13” by Stichting Kunstboek publishers. Furthermore, I am a founding member of the collective BORAX08001, to whom I still belong.

In 2017, after focusing on my family for several years, I changed course and created my own jewelry brand: kreaia. In this new period of my profession I want to return to the idea of everyday jewelry. Jewelry that is not only a decorative and ordinary object but an element which we integrate into our lives, which is part of our style and even our personal history.

For me, a piece of jewelry is an object intensely connected to a certain period of our lives. It is a piece of us which we may, one day, pass on to someone dear who may as well identify with it, appreciate it, give it new value and add more memories.

Jewelry by Colombian hands, trained in Barcelona, with German quality.
